Crying wolf?

Coyotes are all over the local news here. And they may be all over our yard. It could explain the cat's serious reluctance to go outside. I spotted these tracks this afternoon - it's hard to tell, but that's a quarter next to one of the tracks for scale. I could make out claws and the tracks are in a fairly straight line. So, nature lovers, what do you think? Dog, coyote or... wolf?

  1. A couple years ago I looked outside my dining room window one snowy evening and saw a wild coyote staring right back at me. He was so close to the house. We just locked eyes and froze for what seemed like several minutes, but it was probably just a few seconds. It was crazy.

  2. Yikes - that is very scary. I haven't come face to face with one thankfully. Saw a pair in that big field by glacier ridge. I think we've heard them baying or woo-wooing (i.e. "Mom, what's that sound?!" ME - "Um. Uh. A dog.") It creeps me out a little whenever we're outside at dusk.
