Bloomin' English
Latest entries in twin vocab:
- “The candle on the cake isn’t eatful” (edible)
- Angry, Sam shouts: “I’m crossed!” (For you youngins, ‘cross’ is an old expression for “angry.” Sam picked it up watching Thomas the Train.)
- Fiddlesticks (fish sticks)
- “Mmm, chicken with fruit rollups, yummy.” – Sam, identifying baked chicken with sundried tomatoes. (I do not correct him and he eats his dinner without incident.)
- “I need to get my dressed on.” (clothes)
- “It’s 65:17 o’clock.” – a recent attempt to tell time.
- Corvette (vet, veterinarian) “The corvette said August can’t eat any people food.”
And an oldie but goodie that came up again this month:
- “Lute” (Small, felt circles that protect the backs of cabinets)
Why “lutes?” no earthly idea. This is one of the boys' few examples of 'twin language' - it's also one of their earliest words. The other day, I opened a kitchen cabinet, one exclaimed “The lute is gone!”
