Red bird red bird, what do you see?

I see a gray calico cat lookin' at me.

And so it goes each day.

"Red Bird" - the alpha (adorable) male cardinal lives in our backyard and often struts his stuff out of reach of indoor-cat August. He does it for sport - and she's game. The two have settled into a daily ritual not unlike the old Bugs Bunny cartoon with the sheepdog guarding his flock against the wolf who would take one out if given half a chance. At the end of the day, all is forgiven as they clock out and go home. Next day, it starts all over again.

Speaking of young August, some of you may know she's had a rough start in life. We're hoping for happier times ahead. On a follow-up visit to the vet last week, it was suggested that perhaps August might like a feline friend. I hate to admit it, but this thought previously has occurred to me. I have a sneaking suspicion that lonliness during the day may be one factor complicating her health issues.

Hard to say where this is headed, but don't be surprised if I post pictures of a new kitten in the next few weeks. If it will keep her active, happier and more engaged/connected, it'll be worth it.
